ABOUT
KOBE SAFETY APPAREL
The Kobe brand is well known in the motorcycle
racing community for it's quality and value. Kobe leathers
have logged many laps at every motorcycle road racing track
in the US, from Daytona to Laguna Seca and everywhere in between.
We learn a lot from our racing experience and we use that knowledge
to continually make our products even better with increased
safety to the wearer.
Racing (and crashing) helps identify what kind of thread works
best, how thick the leather should be, what quality of leather
to use, what areas need double and triple stitching, and many
other safety and comfort related issues are identified and
continually improved.
Kobe safety apparel is designed to offer the best combination
of safety, comfort, durability, and style. All Kobe products
carry a full 1 year guarantee of workmanship and materials,
even under racing use

LEATHER MOTORCYCLE GARMENT
FACTS:
Kobe uses only genuine cowhide leather in all it's leather products.
Other motorcycle leather apparel manufacturers often use goat
skin for their less expensive product lines. Goat skin costs
less for the manufacturer, but it does not have the same abrasion
and tear resistance as cow hide.
Most racing leathers are 1.1mm to 1.5mm thick. Kobe specifies
1.7mm race grade leather in all it's racing suits. There is no
substitute for quality leather of the approprioate thickness
when safety is primary concern.
Leather jackets are usually 1.0mm to 1.2mm thick. Kobe uses 1.7mm
race grade leather in their famous Dragon jackets. The other
leather jackets in the Kobe line up range from 1.3mm to 1.5mm
thick, well above the norm found in other brands.
Many fancy looking jackets that have lots of colors are actually
made like a quilt, with many smaller pieces of leather stitched
together to make a whole jacket. This makes the garment cheaper
to produce, but can be a serious problem in a crash. Stitched
seams, especially single stitched seams, are one of the weakest
links in a leather garment. Sliding on pavement can wear away
the stitching, and then the garment literally comes apart. Some
racing leathers are actually made this way! Kobe uses overlay
leather graphics sewn on top of the base leather whenever possible,
so the garment is not made like a quilt, and your safety is enhanced. |
